How a same-day crown works

Everything happens in one appointment of about 75 minutes, in four steps.

1. Scan

Once the tooth is prepared, the Primescan camera takes a detailed 3D digital scan of it in a couple of minutes. No impression trays.

2. Design

Your dentist designs the crown on screen, shaping it to fit your bite and match your neighbouring teeth.

3. Make

The design is sent to our CEREC MC XL milling unit here in the clinic, which carves the crown from a solid block of IPS e.max ceramic.

4. Fit

The crown is checked, finished and bonded in place. You leave with your permanent crown the same day.

Questions about CEREC same-day crowns

Is a CEREC crown as strong as a laboratory crown?

We mill our CEREC crowns from IPS e.max, a high strength lithium disilicate ceramic widely used for crowns, inlays and veneers, and bond them to the tooth. For most single crowns, inlays and onlays they are a durable, long lasting option. If a laboratory made crown would suit your tooth better, your dentist will tell you.

How long does the appointment take?

A single CEREC crown takes about 75 minutes from start to finish, in one appointment, instead of two or three visits over a couple of weeks.

Can every tooth be treated on the same day?

Not always. If the tooth first needs root canal treatment or gum treatment, or if you need a larger bridge, we may need more than one visit. We will explain this at your assessment.

How much does a same-day crown cost?

A CEREC same-day crown is £895, or £74.58 per month over 12 months on 0% finance, subject to status. CEREC inlays and onlays are also £895 and CEREC veneers start from £895.

I have just broken a tooth. What should I do?
