Dental crowns: your treatment at Lotus Dental Clinic

What is ‘CEREC’?
CEREC stands for Chair-side Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It is a restoration system that makes it possible for dentists to design and place ceramic restorations in one appointment.

Aesthetic tooth-coloured fillings
There are two main types of dental fillings: direct and indirect.
Direct restorations are shaped and cured directly inside the prepared tooth. Indirect fillings (also called inlays) are first designed and cured outside the mouth and then are fitted to the tooth like inserting a piece into a puzzle.
We provide both types of these aesthetic dental restorations here at Lotus Dental and Aesthetics Clinic. Direct fillings are made from a composite resin dental material that can be coloured to match your natural tooth shade. The indirect fillings are milled on site in a CEREC machine that carves solid inlays out of ceramic blocks.
To create an indirect restoration that precisely fits your tooth, we will take a digital scan of your teeth. There is no need for taking any messy dental impressions.
Depending on the size and shape of the tooth you need to restore, your Lotus Dental and Aesthetics Clinic dentist will recommend either a white filling or a ceramic inlay.
Your treatment journey
Here is what your treatment will look like when you choose Lotus Clinic for your dental crown.01.
Scan your bite
We will use the CEREC Primescan intraoral scanner to capture a digital record of the way your teeth fit together when you bite down.

Prepare your tooth
Your Lotus Dental and Aesthetics Clinic dentist will prepare the tooth that is to receive the crown. Preparation involves trimming away the outer layer of your tooth and drilling the rest into a conical shape.
03.
Scan your tooth
We will then take another digital scan to capture the shape of your prepared tooth.
04.
Design your restoration
The image is sent to a computer program that takes precise measurements and designs a dental crown that will fit perfectly. The design is sent to an on-site milling machine that carves the new crown out of a solid piece of ceramic.
05.
Place your finished crown
You will try out your new crown right away. If the fit is perfect, your dentist will bond it in place.

Dental bridges at Lotus Dental Clinic
Bridges are very similar to dental crowns, and the treatment process is likewise nearly identical
The biggest difference is that crowns are individual restorations, while bridges are conjoined units that include at least two crowns with a false tooth (pontic) suspended between them.
